    Dear Satyendra,

    FOA, Welcome to Biotechnology field.

Its a developing field and hence the opportunities!!

To acknowledge your question, I would suggest you to go with Amity University as of now but if you get admission letter from VIT, Try joining that.

Also through competitive exam, try for IITs, NITs.

I am adding a link for colleges worth choosing for Biotechnology, have a look:

    https://biotechtimes.org/2018/03/10/best-biotechnology-institutes-give-wings-dreams/

One cannot deny the fact that for Biotechnology, there is lot more competition outside the college once you graduated. So spend 4 year of your graduation wisely.

For Do’s and Don’t during graduation period. Keep posting queries, will try to clear air on your doubts.

    Regards

Which is better M Tech from IIT or direct Ph.D. after BE Biotech?

The answer depends on your ultimate career goal. If you want to join academics in India then you need to go with M Tech and then Ph.D. If you wish to join the industry then you can skip MTech. On the other hand, if you want to stay abroad and grow yourself then no need to go for MTech.

    Hi Pradipti,

It is good to see you heading towards genomics which has become the interface of 21st Century Biotechnology. Its an interdisciplinary course i.e a mix of soft skills (R Python), Statistical skills (Analytical), Bioinformatics and most important a well versed knowledge of Modern Biotechnology( Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics and System Biology).

1)No denies on the fact that wet labs in Colleges and universities has come to halt, but this time you can use to develop soft skills like Programming Skill R, Python,Java, Statistical Analysis, Bioinformatics skills and with no cost. You can get enroll yourself in coursera and develop the skills set. This site provides an ample of courses you can be benefited with. Once you are equipped with the mentioned program, learn Tool like Galaxy and explore more about other omics technology( Transcriptomics, Microbiomics, Proteomics)

    2) Would suggest you to connect to likindin and follow people from industries as well as academics. To mention Illumina, Agilent, Thermofisher,Medgenome, Genotypic, Bione are some companies dealing genomics data. Since you are in second year of college, focus more on developing skills set.

3)As mentioned earlier, it is an interdisciplinary courses. So combining interest is more of the pre-requisite for the same.

4)More clarity in question is needed. As per my understanding, once you are equipped with the dry lab skill set, you are in foreground to apply for biotech and pharma industrial positions in India, join Next Generation Sequencing Wet Labs. If qualified competitive exams like CSIR, Gate, GRE  you will eligible for higher studies in India and Abroad.

    5) There are many actually but at this stage, I would like you to get expose yourself with Omics technologies, check yourself with the program available in NTU, NUS, Broad University and the requirements for the same. Built strong connections in Likindin by follow universities, research scholars, industries in the field of NGS, Omics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology.

Keep posting queries when in doubt and All the Best for the career ahead!!

Before choosing a specific field, you need to understand the major focus of each course.

Biotechnology deals with life sciences and exploits living organisms in various industries like Agriculture, Medicines, Food, Biofuels, Bioenergy. On the other hand, Biomedical engineering is a multidisciplinary STEM course combining biology and engineering. Biomedics will stick around health, medicine and technology.

So If you are not sure which field of specialization you want to go then explore Biotechnology, If you are sure that you want to dive deep in technology, health and medicine then Biomedical Engineering is a good fit for you.

Introspect yourself, ask yourself what intrigues you more, and just follow your own call.

    Good Luck!!

Biotechnology is a research-oriented course, where you need to handle sophisticated equipment with precision. In my opinion, instead of going with biotech go with basic science like Zoology and Botany. Because you have a disability, biotech may not be a good option for you career-wise.
